HIPAA PRIVACY PROGRAM

Patient privacy is central to the care we provide to patients at the University of Chicago Medical Center.  Patients entrust us with their confidential health and other information.  It is both our duty and our responsibility to earn and maintain that trust by handling confidential information with care.  Moreover, we must comply with federal and state laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. The HIPAA Privacy Rule established national standards by which we protect and safeguard patient health information.

The  HIPAA Privacy Program at The University of Chicago Medical Center is dedicated to fostering a corporate culture of ethical behavior and integrity in all matters related to patient privacy and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.  The HIPAA Privacy Program provides information, education, guidance and tools to support employees, leadership, faculty, and students in their efforts to ensure the privacy and security of our patients' health information.  Please join the HIPAA Privacy Program in protecting patient health information in our paper, our computers, and our voices.
