HIPAA TIPS OF THE WEEK

7.7.08 TIP OF THE WEEK
HPO Message of the Month (July 2008)

Communicating PHI verbally is part of your job and essential in providing quality and timely health care.  However, be especially careful when discussing PHI in public areas.  When performing your job, remember to be careful of what you say, where you say it, and to whom you say it.  The message for July's HIPAA Privacy & Security Awareness Poster Campaign is... Be Careful When Discussing Protected Health Information (PHI) in Public Areas.
Treat a patient's health information as if it were your own.  It's your job to protect our patients' privacy and confidentiality.

Contact the HIPAA Program Office (HPO) at 4-9716 or HPO@bsd.uchicago.edu for more information.
